It's something you should know about. Get your reed, ligature, and mouthpiece prepared to play. Turn the piece around backward and gently pull air in, lightly push the reed tip closed, and then place your finger in your mouth and over the end of the mouthpiece. Your reed should stay shut for a second or more, before popping open. If you're not getting a good seal, chances are your mouthpiece, reed or ligature is not functioned properly.

oh. ok. I do that by putting the piece on the neck, then closing the bottom of the neck, and creating a suction. It usually stays closed for about 10 seconds.
