I want to sell my father's Selmer Mark VI with serial number M137013. He was the original owner and it is in excellent condition as it hadn't been used much. He died shortly after he bought it. My mother stored it in it's original case since his death and we found it after her death in 2007. We still have it in the original case which still has both keys. What price do you think we can expect to get for it? And do you know where we might be able to sell it?? Do not want to sell on E-Bay or Craigslist!

The best place to sell your horn would be the following:

Your horn was made in 1966, and is in excellent original condition. I'd start off asking around the $7,500 ball park, and would advise against taking a penny less than $5,500.

We are waiting to hear from someone if they are still interested in buying it, but as of now we still have it for sale. We are asking $5,100 for it.

Don't accept one penny less that that Margo. Even at that price, the buyer would be getting one hell of a deal.

These horns are the acme of pro vintage horns, and the right buyer is willing to pay, and pay well, for it.

I'm sorry it took so long to reply, but the interested buyer we were waiting to hear from has agreed to buy it. So good luck in finding a saxophone for your son!

"Agreed to buy it?" Musta really had to twist his arm for $5100. Was the guy wearing a mask when he took it from you?

Did the deal go through? Honey, for $5100, that buyer probably left skidmarks in the driveway as he sped away with that horn.

i bought a selmer mark V1 at a yrd sale and a aristocrat for a total of 50.00.. the mark V1 is in like new condition. the people selling ti had no idea what it was and neither did i. i bought a Bach Trombone and 2 saxophones for a total of $70.00 about a month ago and as i am a novice to saxophones & i have no idea what i was buying but i also knew that the were in good shape and when i asked them how much they wanted for the 2 saxophones they called their brother and asked him what the least was he would take for the trio of instruments and he said $50.00 for both saxophones and $20.00 for the Vintage silver Trombone.. i immediately took all 3 and was reluctant to take the trombone because it was missing the mouth piece but i am glad now that i took it.. i almost didn't take it.. the aristocrat is mint but needs to be tuned up. also picked up last weekend a older sax from one of the neighbors mom and got her old school selmer bundy ll for 25.00..it has a weird odor to it and the lacquer has a weird coloration to it. looks like it needs to be re-lacquered and most definitely needs a overhaul. looks like copper color..dark reddish color. the sax is in very good shape but looks like it was left outside of the case for several years.. i think i did pretty good this past month on instruments. i usually go through a period where i go to estate sales and yard sales and buy a lot of older guitars and trumpets, flutes and french horns etc etc. but as strange as it seems all i bought this month was saxophones for miniscule amounts of money like 25-30.00 for each one.. God is good.. i buy them to resell them although i have to research each one individually and do a lot of research before i sell them on eBay..

Your horn and the condition its in could easily gp
for $7,000 (if not more depending on condition of
the horn.) My suggestion to you would be to put the
horn in a safe place and buy a student model horn
for her to learn on. The price on your horn is only
going to increase over the years--so don't let the
horn be abused by a young person that doesn't know
or really appreciates what a great horn you have.
