I am a beginner sax player, some experience with clarinet. The horn guy checked this old girl, said she was OK (one pad, levelling, etc.). Besides the terrible time hitting the notes below D, I am having difficulting tuning it. I am using a Brillhart Ebolin 3 and a 2.5 reed. I have shaved/fiddled with the reeds, this seems to help a little. Is there a contemporary mouthpiece that works well with this horn? Or should I just forget it and get a YTS-23 to learn on? I have a teacher lined up for the fall, but I kindof want to get started. Ben Webster is my idol Bill Taylor

I used a Link Tone Edge on mine. I also had an old red VanDoren that worked well with it. It takes a piece with no baffle and a large round chamber. Your problem with the low notes might be a matter of just not having enough of the reed in your mouth. My best results were with a Tone Edge #5 and VanDoren #3 reeds.
