Anja - if you're getting this problem with all tenors, maybe you're trying to use reeds that are too hard...you should be able to get SOME sort of note by just relaxing your embouchure.

I would think that 2/3 of the cost new would be a reasonable starting point. Bring a few mpcs/reeds and give it a good workout before buying. I love my SX-90R tenor.
