Hi
I recently purchased 5 Rico Jazz Select UNFILED reeds. I didn't notice the unfiled bit until after I had opened the box.
Previously, I have been using FILED reeds.
Can anyone tell me what the difference between filed and unfiled is ? They look pretty similar to me, but I haven't played the unfiled ones yet...
Regards

I think i found the answer to my own question :
OUCH !
I guess the reeds are shipped without having been balanced. ie the rails (edges) are not filed down to give a uniform response. A side effect is that teh edges are rather sharp - as i discovered after a 3hr rehearsal. Lucky it wasn't a gig.

The Filed just means the bark is shaved so it looks like a vandoren...plays with less resistance than the unfiled(which looks and plays sort of like a la voz)
