Browsing around on ebay the other day I saw a Buescher Academy tenor that didn't have any side or palm keys. They weren't just missing, the horn didn't have any. It was built that way!

Does anyone have any info on this. I'm really curious when it was made, and why it doesn't have those keys.

I have heard that this was a type of a beginner horn that Buescher used to make. It just had the basic keys that elementary students learned on, no palm or side keys to get in the way.

Supposedly a 'learning' instrument (for those who find a real sax, with actual palm keys, too confusing ?? )

I'd classify it as a 'LAMP'

Old sax player in my town has one of these (amongst 80 other odd saxes). It is indeed a 'training' sax that was made for ease of learning. Don't think they got very far with them.
