A music store where I have rented my son's alto sax -- now is saying the price of VITO ALTO SAX is $750 ....Can this be right?

It can be right, but that depends on what type of Vito it is! The only Vito's worth that amount of money (quality and sound wise) are the Vito's made in France (Noblet/Beaugnier/LeBlanc style) or made in Wisconsin (actually assembled in Wisconsin). Newer Vito's (70's and up) are student line models, most of them comparable to the cheap Yamaha lines.
