No, there's definitely a Yamaha AS-100. It may not be available in all parts of the world, but they're being sold here in Australia. I've never played one, but being Yamaha I imagine they'd have to be a pretty decent student sax.

There is indeed a Yamaha alto with 'AS100' in its name but I think it still has a 'Y' in front - at least, I'm used to thinking of it as YAS100. Four or five of my current crop of students have them. Someone told me the new ones are assembled in Taiwan or Korea or somewhere and that the US equivalent is still Japanese built and has a different series number. Whichever, the current one does not seem to be quite as robust as their previous entry-level model. They certainly play well, though, and I'd still recommend them ahead of anything else in the price range. Malcolm Tattersall Townsville, Qld,
