Hi all, I've been playing a Yamaha YAS 32 for about 15 years and in that time I haven't tried any other horns. I like my Yamaha but recently I've been wondering if I'm missing out on something, what I mean is how does the YAS 32 stack up, if I buy a Selmer series 3 will I feel I've spent my money wisely. I know that the 32 isn't a top pro horn but I've been happy with it for a long time, however the series 3 is very alluring. So 1, what do you think of the YAS 32? 2, what do you think of the Selmer series 3?

I don't play either myself, but I have noted that the Yamaha is much more common among touring pros. It's probably related to the way the horn takes punishment on the road. I hear that the Yamahas are much more rugged than other pro horns.

I very much like the YAS32 - it's not their top of the range horn, so it doesn't have quite the depth of the 62 and above, but by the same token it retains a lot of the lightness that the 21 was noted for.

There's certainly no need to change on the basis that you might not be getting a completely professional sound...I myself use 62 alto and a 25 tenor...I like the richness I get from the alto, but prefer the ring the cheaper tenor has over its more expensive counterparts.

The Selmer Series 3 is a good horn, certainly worthy of being called a professional horn....the best you can do is give one a try. If you like it, buy it! If you don't like it, try another, and try a few other makes too.

Bear in mind though that no other horn will give you what your 32 gives you - the trick is to ascertain whether you're getting more..or less. Not as easy as it sounds sometimes!
